LARES TREK & TOUR
Day 1 - Arrival in Lima, Peru
Upon arrival to Lima, you will be greeted and driven to your selected hotel. If staying at the Lima airport Costa del Sol Ramada, you will only need to walk out the airport exit and across the street to your evening accommodations.
Day 2 - Lima to Cuzco
Traveling from Lima to Cuzco you will have gone from sea level to 11,500 feet. The first day you will be free to relax and acclimatize to the altitude. If you’re feeling up to it, the city center is pedestrian-friendly and makes for a great stroll. Depending on preference and price level we’re happy to recommend the city’s best options for dining and shopping.
Day 3 - Cuzco City Tour
Experience firsthand the remnants of the great Incan capital. At Sacsayhuaman you will see the largest and most impressive stonework of Pre-Columbian America. Your visits to the Koricancha and the main cathedrals will highlight the differences between Native American and European architecture.
Day 4 - Lares Trek to Quishuarani
Heading out early from your Cuzco hotel, you will travel by private transport 3 hours through the Sacred Valley to the village of Lares, where you can enjoy the local hot springs and lunch. Continuing by bus to the start of the trail, you will then hike 2.5 hours to Quishaurani (12,140 ft), your campsite for the evening. In the afternoon, you can meet some of the locals and observe their traditional weaving techniques.
Day 5 - Trek Quishuarani to Cancha Cancha
Rising early, you will start the ascent to the Pachacutec Pass; at 14,600 feet this is the highest point of the trek. Take in the breathtaking views of Pachacutec Lake and the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Continuing downhill to Cancha Cancha (12,470 ft), you will make camp for the night.
Day 6 - Trek Cancha Cancha to Aguas Calientes
Hiking downhill for 5 hours to the village of Huaran, you will take local transport to the town of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Enjoy a stroll around the traditional Andean town, and board your train to Aguas Calientes (6,230 ft), located at the base of Machu Picchu, where your hotel awaits you.
Day 7 - Machu Picchu to Cuzco
Awake early to avoid the crowds at the great Inca citadel. During the morning, your guide will walk you through the details of the site's construction and examine how a city survived perched atop this mountain. The afternoon is free to continue to explore the ruins on your own before heading back to Cuzco via a scenic train ride.
Day 8 - Cuzco to Lima
On your final day you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lima. (Optional recommended excursion) - Depending on the time of your international flight out of Peru, a private tour of Lima's key sites can be arranged.
