12 DAY SOUTH AMERICA HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1 - Arrival in Lima, Peru
Upon your arrival to Lima you will be greeted at the airport and driven to your selected hotel. If time permits, we can arrange a tour of Lima's best attractions, including the San Francisco Monastery and Catacombs, the Larco Archeological Museum, and dinner at one of Lima's many fine dining options.
Day 2 - Lima to Cuzco & City Tour
Take a morning flight from coastal Lima to highland Cuzco. After dropping off your suitcases at your hotel, you’ll experience firsthand the remnants of this great Incan capital. At Sacsayhuaman you will see the largest and most impressive stonework of pre-Columbian America. Your visits to Koricancha and the main cathedral will highlight the differences between Incan and European architecture.
Day 3 - Sacred Valley Tour
Today you’ll explore the Sacred Valley, a productive agriculture region that has changed little since the reign of the Incas. Farmers still plant on traditional terraces, and artisans still create beautiful handmade rugs and tapestries. Tour highlights include the rural Pisac market and the ruins and village of Ollantaytambo. Following your Ollantaytambo tour you will travel by train to Machu Picchu town where you will spend the night.
Day 4 - Machu Picchu Tour
In the morning your guide will meet you at your hotel and take you up to the Machu Picchu ruins. Your tour of Machu Picchu will last about 2 hours, during which you’ll learn about the site’s impressive construction and what life in this mountain top city might have been like. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore the ruins before embarking on a scenic train ride to Cuzco.
Day 5 - Cuzco to Buenos Aires, Argentina
After breakfast you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires via Lima. You will be met at the airport by your SA Luxury Expeditions guide and taken to your Buenos Aires hotel. Depending on your time of arrival we can arrange an activity in the city for the afternoon or evening.
Day 6 - Buenos Aires City Tour
After breakfast you’ll head out on a Buenos Aires city tour during which you’ll explore the districts of San Telmo, La Boca, Recoleta, Puerto Madero, the city center, and the main plaza. The tour will end in the Recoleta Cemetery where you’ll have the chance to stay and explore further independently or continue back to the hotel.
Day 7 - Free Day with Dinner & Tango
Your day will be free, giving you time to explore independently. The main districts in Buenos Aires are pedestrian friendly and the city’s subways are efficient and easy to use. In the evening, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to one of Buenos Aires’s best tango houses for an authentic Porteno evening of dinner, music, and dancing. Choose either a small, intimate show or a large, Broadway-style production.
Day 8 - Buenos Aires to Iguazu Falls & Tour
Upon arrival to Iguazu Falls you’ll head straight to the Argentina National Park to see the stunning jungle scenery and rushing waterfalls. This side allows up-close views via pathways that hug the falls. You’ll visit Devil’s Throat, the largest set of waterfalls in the park and when your tour finishes, you’ll be taken to your Iguazu hotel for the evening.
Day 9 - Iguazu Falls Tour, Brazil National Park
This morning you’ll experience Iguazu Falls from the Brazilian side, which is better for encompassing vistas of the entire site. From the walkways you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Iguazu’s 275 falls. Altogether, Iguazu Falls stretches an impressive mile across. After your Iguazu tour, you’ll continue in private transportation to the airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro.
Day 10 - Iguazu to Rio de Janiero & Corcovado Tour
After waking up in the beautiful and vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, you’ll set off on a tour up Corcovado Mountain to visit the impressive statue of Christ the Redeemer. You’ll ascend the mountain via a guided Jeep tour and enjoy Rio’s most famous landmark and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World up close.
Day 11 - Sugarloaf Mountain Tour
Get to know Rio a bit better by taking an informative tour though its downtown. You’ll pass the famous Sambodrome and Metropolitan Cathedral on your way to Sugarloaf Mountain, another postcard perfect Rio landmark. To get to the top, you’ll take an exciting two-stop ride in a glass cable car. From Sugarloaf’s peak you’ll have spectacular panoramic views of Guanabara Bay, Corcovado, and the cityscape.
Day 12 - Depart from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Enjoy a final breakfast in the “Marvelous City” After breakfast your journey will end and you will be taken to the airport for your return trip home.
