Patagonia encompasses the southern portion of South America, covering the bottom thirds of Chile and Argentina. Though the region is most famous for its icy mountains and blue glaciers, Patagonia is primarily a semiarid plateau, similar in appearance to the Australian Outback. It is this vast expanse of wilderness, highlighted by jagged white peaks and crisscrossed by iceberg-filled fjords, that makes Patagonia such a place of majesty.
